Some of the lanes in and around Stoke St Gregory are quite narrow enough that they cannot afford to be narrowed yet further by overgrown hedges. There have been several complaints about this recently, particularly in relation to Curload. Although Somerset County Council Highways are responsible for immediate verges, and will cut these, the hedge is generally the responsibility of the land-owner, so if your garden or field has a hedge along the road, please make sure that it is cut back regularly, especially now that the nesting season is over.

Please also ensure that any clippings are removed from the road so that they cannot block drains and risk flooding.

If you are worried about a particular hedge it may be reported to Highways on this page. In some circumstances, especially where road safety is an issue, Highways may cut the hedge but charge the land-owner.
