Church Events

The routine of the church continued thanks to many people who gave their time uncomplainingly. Repairs and maintenance were carried out thanks to David Lake and David House who cleaned gutters, mended lights and dozens of small tasks that keep our church in good order. We were fortunate to have fresh flowers at every service thanks to Annette Gage and her team of flower ladies. The team of cleaners kept the church looking spruce despite their dwindling numbers. Pat Sollis and Barabara Parsons organised fetes, teas, suppers, and cleared up afterwards, together with Ann Jackson (never seen without a teacloth!), Diana Silk and Sheila Hembrow.

The Church celebrated the Millenium with music, drama and flowers. Drama was incorporated into some of the services from Christmas until Easter. These were well presented and thought provoking.

The Flower Festival, organised by Annette Gage, took place in the middle of June, taking the theme of "A Palette of Colours". From the white flowers by the altar, through yellow and red, to the deep blue and purple by the font and at the South Door, the whole church looked beautiful.

There was a short concert at the preview on Friday, followed by a musical evening with the band and choir on Saturday.

The churchyard had been tidied up for the occasion and the stocks, carefully restored, were returned to their place under the tree.

There were various successful fundraising events during the year.

The plant sale at Sally & Alex Morrice's was well attended with many interesting plants for sale.

The August Bank Holiday walk, led by David House, set off from the church to Moredon for a picnic lunch, then back along the edg of Curry Moor to Slough Court and the Parish Room for tea.

The Fete was held in September in the Vicarage garden. Rain threatened but held off during the afternoon. The Fete was opened by David Blackburn, retiring head of the school, and music was provided by the Kingsbury Band.
