Playing fields

It was opened in 1951 as a plain field. Now it has a pavilion - a former Great Western Railway booking office.

There is also a well equipped children's play area.

Sadly, we do have some vandalism, plus damage to the pavilion, to the tennis court, and also to trees.

The main fund raising for the Playing Field is a 10k run on Boxing Day, known as the Stoke Stampede, when runners take part from a wide area. Recently, electricity has been connected to the pavilion.

Three clubs use the Playing Field - Tennis, Football and Cricket

The Tennis Club

The courts were built in 1984. The founding members of the club were Robin & Terri Owen, Annette Gage, Simon Baldwin, John Tipping and Margaret Burrows. The emphasis has been on providing a tennis club to serve the whole community with affordable fees and an informal "tennis for all" approach.

The club has flourished and has maintained a membership of about 45, mainly Family Members. The subscriptions have remained the same for nearly 10 years - £25 for a family.

This year the Club was able to resurface the courts. The next project will be to provide floodlighting, now that electricity has been brought to the pavilion.
