Village Stores

[After 8 years of superhuman service to the village, Ian & Karen have announced that they will be closing the Village Stores at the end of December 2019, but they will continue to run the business from the Shop-in-a-Box in the village hall car park until the end of March 2020. During this time they will train volunteers so that HOTV can take over running it as a community shop thereafter. Once HOTV has raised sufficient money, the aim is to buy the Royal Oak on behalf of the community, and run both the pub and the shop from the same building.]

Ian and Karen would like to welcome you to our truly independent village stores.

We are located right in the centre of the village next to the Parish Church of St Gregory.  We are also in the centre of an area of outstanding natural beauty and bounty!  Our aim is to provide all customers with as much locally produced food and drink as possible.  Somerset is renowned for its fantastic food – not just cider apples but everything from vegetables, dairy, cheeses, meat, drink and baked goods.  If we can’t find what we want locally we will do our best to source lovey food from small businesses throughout the south west of England.

Being independent, we can source the best food at the best prices – that way you enjoy wonderful food and we all support local producers in the knowledge that what we eat has not travelled half way around the world! We have been awarded 5 Stars in the national Food Standards Agency food hygiene system.

As well as the everyday convenience foods we stock all dairy products, meat, pies, freshly baked bread, speciality coffees and teas, biscuits, pickles, and conserves, wines, spirits and beers and eggs.  We also sell postcards, maps, guides, garden plants, logs (in winter), barbecue charcoal (in summer), pet food, tobacco, newspapers and magazines, stationery, toiletries, stamps, will weigh packets and parcels, provide a photocopying and laminating service.  We also have a PayPoint terminal so customers can top-up mobile phones, pay utility bills and charge electricity and gas keys.
We are always adding to our stock and trying out new suppliers.  So come and pay us a visit whether you live in the area, are enjoying a relaxing holiday or just passing through. We believe in a friendly smile, good service and excellent locally produced food.  Come and tell us what you love about Somerset food!
