People within earshot of the Parish Church will have noticed that the clock strike has been very unreliable recently. It turns out that this is due to an unravelling weight cable which is snagging in its shaft and tripping the winder. The strike will be silent until this is fixed, though the chimes should continue.

A further consequence is that the time is difficult to set exactly since it is normally regulated to the hourly strike, but normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

UPDATE 4-7-17
Closer inspection by Cumbria Clocks who service our clock, shows that the strike weight cable has wound itself round a gear on the autowinder and damaged a couple of teeth. The auto-winder has been removed for servicing, and should be back in a few weeks.
