Readers may be aware that the coming weekend is the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, marking the Allies’ victory over Japan in 1945.
To mark the event locally, and in line with a wider programme of events nationally, the Union Flag will be flown from the church tower throughout the day, and there will be a rendition of the ‘Sunset’ bugle call from the church steps in the evening.
Those nearby may wish to listen out at around 8:20pm, but in keeping with the need for social distancing please do not congregate.
Once again we are grateful to Shaun Street of 1st Stoke St Gregory Scout Group, who has offered to do this for us, and also for the approval of the Parish Council and the Playing Fields Committee.
Additionally, and subject to the vagaries of the weather and the available technology, we plan to stream live to the Stoke St Gregory group on Facebook, and subsequently make the item available also on the village web-site and the Stoke St Gregory Villagers Facebook group:
