St Gregory Players

The present St Gregory Players have been entertaining the village for more than thirty years, following in the footsteps of an earlier group which disbanded. Our programme varies according to the availability of members for the many different tasks involved in mounting a production.

Besides actual actors, we need a good backstage team, the unsung heroes of a production who make it all possible. We also present Murder Mysteries, which are not only good fun, but also a good way of raising some money for the group and other organisations in the village.

Our productions include full length plays, One Act plays which we enter into the Somerset County Drama Festivals and pantomimes and we recently took on the challenge of a full scale musical.

We belong to the Somerset Fellowship of Drama, and enter our plays in their competitions, so receiving valuable criticism from the adjudicators which helps us to raise our production standards.

Our former youth drama group was enthusiastically and ably led by Liz Brown, to achieve many successes over the past years including winning both the County and the Five Counties Drama Festivals for many years. And they were one of the first two youth plays ever to be invited to the British All Winners Festival!! These successes were well deserved by all those who took part and consistently worked so hard. Unfortunately, the Youth Drama is not operating at the moment.

If you want to know more, either to hire us for a murder mystery, or even join us in putting one together, please give us a call. We are always looking for new faces – young and not so young – to be brave and come up on stage with those of us already daft enough to do so; or anyone willing to help out in other ways – from designing posters/leaflets/flyers to front of house work, or lighting, sound, wardrobe and other backstage stuff.

The St Gregory Players will be putting on a production of A bolt from the Blue, by David Tristram in November 2022.

Please get in touch via saintgregoryplayers@gmail.com if you would like to be involved.
