Refuse & recycling

Both refuse and recycling are the responsibility of Taunton Deane District Council. Recycling and food waste are collected every week, general and garden refuse are collected on alternate weeks. You can check your collection calendar here, but most Stoke St Gregory collections are on a Wednesday.

Recycling is divided into glass, tins and cans, plus paper, in the green bin, and plastic bottles and cardboard in the black bin. Food waste goes in a small brown bin, general waste in a big black wheelie-bin and garden waste in a green one. Following a change of recycling contract in 2019, a wider range of plastics and some other items should be collected for recycling from 2020.

Somerset Waste Partnership handles waste on behalf of all Somerset local authorities, and some interesting news and information can be found on their website. See also this News item concerning current issues.

Collection date changes

Collections will normally be a day later on weeks that include a bank holiday The collection calendar linked above should cover irregular collection days around Easter and Christmas, but we’ll aim to publish these anyway on this page and on the Noticeboard page.
