You may have heard that the last members of the management committee elected in 2024 have now resigned, leaving HOTV with no committee at all. You may be wondering how on earth this happened—and what comes next.
The answer to the first question is that the committee of eleven gradually dwindled as one by one, members resigned on finding it impossible to work with a small number of the other members. A few may have resigned for other reasons but the over-riding reason given was a toxic atmosphere which made it impossible to discuss matters and manage rationally.
When it became obvious that the committee was terminally dysfunctional, a group of nineteen “concerned Members” sent a letter asking for a Special Members’ Meeting to pass a vote of no confidence in the remaining committee. In the event the last committee members resigned on 22 January making any move to unseat them redundant.
The Special Members’ Meeting will however go ahead, as per the update sent to Members, for the purpose of electing someone to chair an interim management committee. This interim committee can resume proper management straight after the meeting. We hope that you will come along to ask questions and help determine our future course. Please note that this meeting is open only to Members of HOTV, i.e. those who own at least 4 shares.
As soon as possible after the meeting, the interim committee will organise an election so that all Members can validate a new management committee, which any Member may apply to join. We are grateful to those on the 2024 committee who have continued to help keep the business running, many of whom have indicated their willingness to stand again. It will be appreciated that all committee members are volunteers, along with so many others who contribute their time to keep the show on the road.
The other priority for the new committee will be to make up for lost time in several areas, particularly a renewed Business Plan, essential areas of compliance, better community engagement and looking at ways of improving what we offer to customers.
We hope that we can demonstrate the resilience of HOTV in riding above the recent turbulence and restoring the friendliness and mutual support that has always been the bedrock of our community enterprise.
