Shop-in-a-Box

As you will have noticed, the shop moved into the Royal Oak on 30 November 2020, and is being run from there with a much expanded stock (and coffee) under the able managership of Jo and Carolyn. This page therefore needs a major revamp. In the meantime, Christmas and new year opening hours are as follows.

As of 1st April 2020, the Village Stores has become the Stoke St Gregory Community Shop, temporarily housed in the Shop-in-a-Box container alongside the Williams Hall. While the Covid-19 pandemic has played havoc with the plans of Heart of the Village to staff the shop with volunteers, the need for a source of supplies in the village is greater than ever, and we are maintaining opening times with the help of two part-time managers:Jo Bown and Carolyn Dauncey.

Jo and Caroline are operating the strict Covid-19 policy set up by Ian Upshall to keep everyone safe around the shop, and developing it as necessary as the circumstances evolve. Only one person at a time should currentlyenter the shop, and masks must be worn.

Opening times
Monday to Friday 7:30 to 5:30 (except early closing at 1:00 on Wednesday)
Saturday 8:00 to 2:30
Sunday (and Bank Holidays) 9:00 to 12:00

For the duration of the pandemic, the shop is operating a free delivery service manned by volunteers for those who are self-isolating or otherwise in need of it. Please let them know if they can help you.

The new shop is infused with the tradition of the old Village Stores. Jo and Carolyn are building on all the work that Ian and Karen did to maintain it in very difficult circumstances as a flourishing business, answering the needs of the community. HOTV is very grateful to them for sticking with it until we were in a position to take over, and going well out of their way to make the transition as easy as possible.

Looking forwards, HOTV has now bought the Royal Oak and will establish the community shop there alongside the pub. The current aim is to transfer the shop by the end of October. At that point this page will change to the new Shop page.
