Readers may be aware that this coming weekend (Fri 8 to Sun 10 May) is the 75th anniversary of VE Day, marking the Allies’ victory in Europe in 1945. Stoke St Gregory had planned a number of events locally, as part of the national programme of celebration, including a VE Day-themed Village Breakfast, and a ceremony at the memorial on the Playing Field, with a brass band and tea and cakes. Unfortunately those have had to be cancelled because of the lockdown/social distancing requirements currently in force.

But there will still be a rendition of The Last Post on Friday 8 May in the village centre. This will be at 10:58 to immediately precede the Royal British Legion’s national 2 minutes silence, so listen out for that, but please do not congregate. We are grateful to Shaun Street of 1st Stoke St Gregory Scout Group, who has kindly offered to perform this for us.

If you are not within range of the churchyard you will not be able to hear the live performance, but we hope the event will be filmed and posted soon afterwards on social media. If we can crack the technology it may even be streamed live on the village web-site and on Facebook, so check online at the following links:
